Women in Solitude

This series is deeply influenced by the notion of solitude and self-reliance by Emerson and Thoreau. Solitude is an important state and as Thoreau descirbes it, solitude is not loneliness or isolation, but rather self-communion and introspection. It has little to do with the physical proximity of others, since he says that a man can be lonely when surrounded by others if he does not feel real companionship with them. The search for truth should always start with contemplation of the individual self and nature. Therefore, my female figures are not lonely, but in solitude - sometimes undergoing transformations, sometimes being closer to themselves.
