Rhiannon — thought to be a goddess of horses, the moon, forgiveness, rebirth, and fertility — was a Welsh Celtic goddess whose name can translate several ways. Some sources say the name comes from the Celtic word for ''Great Queen'', Rigantona. Other sources translate the name as ''divine feminine'' and ''Night Queen.'' Scant information is available regarding this goddess. This is because those who practiced Pagan religions commonly passed down their stories orally. When other civilizations conquered these civilizations, their stories were often extinguished. In my artwork I wanted to focus on the mysterious, but powerful aspect of the Night Queen and imagined her as somewhat blossoming creature that would appear out of the dark starring at you with her intriguing eyes.
